Bineke Oort

Back to Presenters

Bineke Oort, born and raised in The Netherlands, first discovered meditation - in conjunction with yoga - when adjusting to the busy life of a recently immigrated mother of two toddlers. Later she included mindfulness, as taught by the Vietnamese Zen Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hanh, into her own spiritual practice as well as in her work with clients. For twenty years, while living in New Jersey, she worked as family therapist and Rubenfeld Synergist. In 1999 Bineke and her spouse Abraham moved to Hartland, Vermont, to live adjacent to the Green Mountain Dharma Center, one of three monasteries of Thich Nhat Hanh. Since that time she has mostly dedicated herself to storytelling, to the work of lay ministry at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Hartland, and to facilitating mindfulness meditation at the Mindfulness Practice Center in White River Junction. Bineke sees mindfulness practice as an essential ingredient in the macrobiotic way of life.

Classes for the 2011 Cruise

Class: Morning Meditation Practice
To wake up our body and mind we will start the morning meditation with a few physical stretches and breathing exercises. Then we will practice sitting and walking meditation. In a guided meditation - sitting on chairs - we will quiet our mind and bring attention to our whole self -- our body, feelings and mind. In the walking meditation we will practice silent, slow, mindful walking to get in touch with our body sensations in movement and with the ocean as well as with our earth. We will end with a brief sitting meditation.
