Ronald Peters, M.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Ronald Peters graduated from Stanford University with honors. He then attended UCLA School of Medicine followed by a Masters in Public Health at the UCLA School of Public Health. Recognizing the limitations of conventional medical training with its emphasis on drugs and surgery, he has devoted the past 40 years to the study of integrative, or functional, medicine. He worked at the Pritikin Longevity Center and then developed the InnerHealth Program, both in Los Angeles. Looking more deeply into the nature of disease, he studied with Master Teachers for 20 years, thereby realizing the unity of mind and body. Mindbody medicine is an essential and unique healing approach that allows people to experience the timeless Truth: consciousness creates both health and disease. He summarized the formative power of the conscious and unconscious mind in his book, Edgework, Exploring the Psychology of Disease. Dr. Peters is an accomplished writer and lecturer and is highly effective in helping people learn from their health problems and transform stress and disease into health and healing.

Lectures and Private Consultations for the 2016 Cruise
Keynote: Osteoporosis: The Myth of Diagnosis and the Reality of Prevention and Treatment
In 1994, a World Health Organization committee changed the definition of osteoporosis from a fragility fracture to a measure of bone density. Suddenly millions of American women were diagnosed with osteoporosis and began taking a variety of drugs, staring with hormone replacement therapy and later switching to Fosamax and a host of others. The problem is that bone density is not a measure of bone strength and therefore is a poor predictor of fracture risk. There are many factors that lead to fractures, not just bone density. Age, heredity, body weight, diseases, lifestyle, frailty, vitamin D levels, and amount of trauma all play important roles. In this lecture you will learn how to evaluate the health of your bones and how to maintain and restore strength to this dynamic, living tissue that gives your body support and definition.
Lecture: The Psychology of Disease and the New Mindbody Medicine
Revised and updated with new research
The great psychoanalyst Dr. Franz Alexander summarized the mindbody connection when he wrote: “The fact that the mind rules the body is, in spite of its neglect by biology and medicine, the most fundamental fact which we know about the process of life...” The origins of physical disease are within consciousness – the body is the messenger of the conflicts, sustained fears, suppressed emotional traumas, disturbed patterns of thinking, and other imbalances that lie within the conscious and unconscious mind. Disease is the body’s way of getting your attention and inviting self-exploration, thereby offering true healing. In this workshop you will learn a new model of healing that will guide you to greater levels of health, self-understanding and wisdom. Powerful new research on the DNA and consciousness connection will be presented.
Lecture: Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women & Men: What Are the Benefits and Risks?
Declining hormones before and after menopause is a natural part of a woman’s life, ranging from no symptoms to hot flashes, fatigue, sleep disturbance and mood swings. Due to the abundance of estrogen receptors in the brain, some women experience poor concentration, lack of focus and impaired memory. At the same time that hormones decline, the risk for heart disease, cancer and depression rises for postmenopausal women. How does hormone replacement therapy fit into a woman’s pursuit of health in mind and body?
For men, fatigue, exhaustion, depression, no motivation, weight gain, muscle atrophy, belly fat, low libido, erectile dysfunction and poor sleep can be symptoms of low testosterone. Studies have shown that 30% of men ages 40 to 79 have extremely low testosterone levels; the majority of men have sub-optimal levels. The relentless stress of modern life is a major factor for both sexes, but research also implicates poor diet, chemical toxins and heavy metals as well. In this lecture, you will learn the benefits and risks of bio-identical hormone replacement therapy.
Lecture: Acid Alkaline Balance: The Biological Foundation for Health
Your health depends on maintaining a pH of 6.5 to 7.5 in the tissues and fluids in your body. Almost every disease results from the long-term effects of too much acid. The body notifies you of this acidic condition through a variety of symptoms, including fatigue, headaches, allergies, colds and flus, soreness, weight gain, recurrent infections, moodiness, depression and many more. In order to treat illness and to restore your health it is important to understand how to improve the acid alkaline balance in your body.
Integrative Mind-Body Medicine Counseling - $350/person, 60 min.
Mind-body medicine is the essence of healing as it focuses on two issues: restoring the natural wisdom of the body and exploring the causes of disease in the conscious and unconscious mind. The wisdom of the body is an orchestra of wondrously complex systems—including digestion, assimilation, immunity, hormones, brain chemistry and more. Your body wisdom, however, is governed by your mind and this is the missing element in many medical therapies. In this consultation, Dr. Peters will help you understand the physical nature of a medical problem, as well as the underlying patterns of stress. You will explore the factors that coalesce into disease and how you can restore health in body and mind, thereby responding to the message of illness. Dr. Peters can also work with you after the cruise when you return home via telephone consultation.
