MSC Cruises ushered in a new era of elegance at sea with the Poesia. Just as the Holistic Holiday at Sea™ - Voyage To Well Being is not a typical vacation cruise, the new eco-friendly MSC Poesia is not a typical cruise ship. The Poesia is an Italian masterpiece. As the name implies the Poesia brings a sense of poetry and a new dimension of enjoyment to the art of traveling by ship. Combining the Old World sophistication of European design with state-of-the-art American comforts and conveniences, at 964 feet in length and 121 feet in width, the Poesia cruises the Caribbean and Mediterranean in a class all her own. And so will you.
The MSC Poesia was inaugurated in 2008. As you would expect with such a new cruise liner, it is built to the highest and most demanding ecological and safety standards, resulting in a truly modern liner. In fact, MSC ships are the greenest in the industry, having received numerous awards from both private and government organizations.
Designed with the hallmark Italian artistry and elegance that guests associate with the MSC line, staterooms are stylishly decorated and many have private balconies. Passengers will appreciate the attention to detail and craftsmanship. Imagine yourself on a private balcony overlooking the ocean and beneath a star-filled sky.
On board Poesia you will discover luxury cruising at its best. As you enter the midship atrium you will be greeted by a festive ambience thanks to the bright lights, stimulating colors and spectacular 50 foot waterfall. Guests can enjoy piano music preformed over a luminous pool of water at the base of the falls.
During your 7 day cruise you will experience delicious, specially prepared vegan meals served by tuxedo clad waiters in the ship’s two elegant dining rooms, the Le Fontane on deck 5 and Il Palladio on deck 6. However, if you have an urge to go Japanese, stop by the tasteful Kaito sushi bar complete with its authentic Zen garden.
The Poesia boasts fourteen bars and lounges including the wine tasting bar, Il Grappolo d'Oro on deck 7, and the Aurea Spa Bar located within the spectacular 13,000 square foot Aurea Spa and aromatherapy room. Il Grappolo d'Oro features only Italian wines and gives you the opportunity to taste a huge variety of wines from all regions of Italy. The wine sommelier is extremely friendly and loves to share his knowledge and passion for wine. The Spa Bar is very different and features a variety of cold, colorful blender drinks mixed with fruit and/or berries. For a little late night fun, try the Disco on deck 14, which affords a panoramic view of the ocean.
All the Poesia's many lounges and other public spaces are artfully decorated with eye appealing furnishings and wall hangings. The Zebra music bar has a particularly exciting and exotic atmosphere inspired by African themes. Lamp shades, flooring, sculptures and picture frames are all black and white, in line with the overall lounge design.
During your free time between lectures, yoga, Pilates, meditation, cooking classes, and workshops, refresh yourself in one of the Poesia’s sparkling swimming pools. The pool area is comprised of two large swimming pools and four whirlpools, on Deck 13. Most remarkable are the deck chairs. They have a little "sun visor" attachment, which can easily be positioned to keep the sun off of your face. Surrounding the pool on two decks above are additional sunning locations and glass-enclosed showers.
At night you can enjoy an open-air cinema experience under the stars on an immense screen by the pool. Children will go crazy for the Stone Age dinosaur-themed play area and even teens are catered for in the Teen's Club.
When it comes to live entertainment, MSC delivers. The Carlo Felice theatre is acoustically wonderful as well as amazing, with no blocked sight lines. Every night, not just on the two formal nights, there is a lavish production number to watch. From the talented vocals of opera singer Mimma Barra to the lanky dancers and their Sin City review, to aerialists, there is always something for everyone. The performers on MSC are exceptionally well trained and professional.
Aboard the Poesia, you are never far from live music. It has been said that MSC is one of the best cruise lines for live music. And past guests agree. Starting in the late afternoon and continuing into the wee hours, live music can be found at seven locations throughout the ship.
Holistic Holiday at Sea is not only a very relaxing vacation, it is also a profound learning experience that will change your life. If you feel a need for a quiet space to unwind and contemplate all you are learning, retreat to the ship's small library with books in several languages. There is an attendant who will unlock the bookcases for you, but you need to check the time that it is staffed.
Like all ships sailing today, the Poesia is outfitted for wifi. There are various hotspots throughout the ship, mainly in the public areas. If you bring your laptop, here's a little known SECRET: At the reception desk, you can borrow an ethernet cable and connect it right to an outlet on your cabin TV. You'll need to purchase an internet package in order to get online, but it is so nice to be able to use your own laptop in your cabin.
