What you will find is that the ideas on how to be vegan are the same that go into any well thought-out diet transformation. The only differences are indiscipline, preparation and time.

Discipline on How to be Vegan

Many vegans make a regular practice of buying their groceries in season from local farmers markets or food co-ops. Buying items in season at a local farmers market enhances the flavor and makes purchasing groceries more of an experience than you’ll find in your average grocery store. What you’ll find in place of the convenience of your local chain grocery store is a renewed sense of community, better information directly from the people who raise the food, and interesting alternatives to what you would normally eat out of habit. All it requires is a little bit of planning, a shift in perspective on how to purchase, and bit of upper body strength. From what I have found, these are all things that more and more people like to practice anyway.

Preparation for How to be Vegan

When cutting out meat from a regular diet, some people have difficulty finding suitable substitutes for the lack of protein. Of course, the go-to items are usually a mix of tofu, soy, or other high-density bean, prepared in a way that would hopefully mimic the taste and consistency of meat. Though I’m sure there are some who find these methods terrific, others may have a difficult time accepting them as suitable alternatives. Other high protein alternatives exist including quinoa, seeds, and nuts. A well rounded mix of all of these options will yield the best variety in a vegan diet.
