Vegan Vacations aboard Holistic Caribbean Cruise
Structured vacations such as cruises can be challenging for vegans. Cruise ships are known for their around the clock buffets and extravagant dining rooms, but many of the vegetarian options offered on cruise ships include dairy or egg products, making them off limits for vegan travelers.
To help alleviate this challenge, Holistic Holiday at Sea has developed a vegan cruise vacation. While onboard, guests will be treated to three healthy, macrobiotically inspired, vegan meals each day. These gourmet vegan meals are all prepared under the supervision of cruise chef Mark Hanna and his staff of vegan and macrobiotic chefs. Many of the items offered on the holistic vegan menu are brought on board by Holistic Holiday at Sea specifically for the Holistic Holiday at Sea program.
More than Just Vegan Food on this Vacation
Aside from the three vegan meals, vacationers will also have access to over 120 classes, lectures and workshops covering a variety of alternative and holistic health practices. Topics covered include yoga and Pilates, meditation, massage, integrative medicine, macrobiotics, and cooking classes. There are also a number of social events specifically for the holistic cruise participants, including a vegan pizza party, an organic wine social and a talent show.
Classes of Specific Interest to Vegan Vacationers
There are several cruise presenters who are of specific interest to the vegan participants. One such example is Dr. Neal Barnard, founder of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and a lobbyist for the vegan foods industry. Dr. Barnard is responsible for the development of the new four food groups, a vegan food pyramid. On board, Dr. Barnard will offer a lecture series on the health benefits of eating a vegan diet. During the 2008 cruise Dr. Barnard offered a fascinating lecture covering how the US Government influences food choices, food availability, and dietary standards.
Also of interest to vegans are the cooking classes, especially those taught by Isa Chandra Moskowitz. Moskowitz is a well-known vegan chef and author of several popular vegan cookbooks, Vegan with a Vengeance, Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World, and Veganomicon – The Ultimate Vegan Cookbook. She will be teaching four cooking classes on board the 2009 cruise vacation.
